Apple develops its own data chip and plans to use iPhone 13

Apple’s newly launched iPhone 12 series all support 5G networks. If nothing happens, the iPhone 13 series launched later will continue to support it. Earlier, there was news that Apple intends to develop its own 5G mmWave AiP to replace the Qualcomm chip currently in use, and the relevant news was once again confirmed by people familiar with the matter that Apple has announced the plan at a staff meeting.

According to reports, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware technology Johny Srouji announced in a meeting with employees that Apple has begun to develop its own modem chip this year, and the chip will be used in Apple’s future hardware products to replace Qualcomm (Qualcomm) similar chips. According to reports, Srouji believes that this move will achieve another key strategic transformation to ensure that Apple will have a wealth of future innovative technologies.

Srouji pointed out at the meeting that Apple purchased Intel’s modem business for US$1 billion last year and has helped Apple build a mature team of hardware and software engineers to realize its plan to develop its own data chip. A number of wireless chips have been designed, such as the W series chip used in Apple Watch, and the U1 ultra-wideband chip used in the iPhone to accurately sense other Apple devices.

The current iPhone 12 series uses Qualcomm’s 7nm second-generation 5G chip Snapdragon X55, which can support both 5G millimeter wave and Sub-6GHz frequency bands. According to earlier reports, Apple is developing its own 5G mmWave AiP, and it is coming to an end, and it is planned to be adopted on the iPhone 13 series and the OLED iPad Pro in 2021.

However, there is no reliable information about when Apple’s own data chip will be used or in which year’s iPhone or iPad it will be used. However, it was because Apple and Qualcomm only reached a 6-year patent use last year. Agreement, so the outside world speculates that Apple will continue to cooperate with Qualcomm, using the 5nm process Snapdragon X60 announced by Qualcomm earlier this year in the iPhone 13 series until the end of the cooperation period.
