Apple to open first physical store in India by 2021

Although Apple has shifted its revenue focus to service products, the iPhone still has to sell, so they also need to open up a new market with potential. Tim Cook revealed at the annual investor conference that the Indian market needs to be strengthened, including online sales starting at the end of 2020, and the first official physical store to be opened in 2021. Apple is still waiting for the Indian government to approve a sole proprietorship, because Cook said they don’t want to be run by local businesses.

It has been a while since the iPhone was produced locally in India, but because local laws require foreign companies to obtain approval before they can run a sole proprietorship, Apple currently only sells iPhones through third-party channels.

In the past, Apple has not paid special attention to the Indian market because the locals did not accept their high-priced products. Instead, they were occupied by brands such as Xiaomi and Samsung with a large number of low-end and mid-range products. However, today, when iPhone sales are weak, India, the world ’s second largest smartphone market, cannot be ignored, so it is self-evident that Apple has been pushing cheaper models in recent years.
