UK study: mobile phone screen on night mode does not help sleep

Many studies have suggested that blue light emitted by electronic devices can affect sleep, and you should minimize your phone or computer exposure before going to bed. However, according to a recent study by Dr. Tim Brown published in Contemporary Biology in the UK, low-light-related blue light is weaker than white or yellow light with the same brightness.

Many phones support Night Shift or Dark Mode to reduce screen blue light emission. However, the latest British research shows that a group of white mice are exposed to different colors of light settings to observe their response to light sources with different color temperatures and brightness. The results show that no matter the color of the light is yellow or blue, the higher the brightness, the more it will interfere with sleep. However, in the case of the same low brightness, blue light is more effective in helping sleep than yellow light.

The results showed that blue light had a weaker effect on the rat’s physiological clock than the equally bright yellow.
